Avaritia Aliastor
Core Information Name: Avaritia Aliastor Nickname/Alias: Ava, Nightowl Age: 18 Gender: Female Birthplace: Violet City, Johto Trainer Classification: Trainer Character Tracker: Physical Attributes Height: 5'5" Weight: 120 lbs. Appearance: Fair and fragile and excellent words to describe Avaritia. She has a frail body structure with little muscle and lean bones supporting her. Her skin could almost be described as porcelain. To highlight her rather pale features is her light blond hair that falls in natural curls around her shoulder in a usually slightly styled fashion. Her eyes are a strange oddity, as they're a light reddish-pink, a feature she doesn't share with her parents but isn't unheard of in her distant familial relations. Her face is unscathed and shows that she's had a sheltered life, as there's little sun damage or freckles to show for doing any living in an outside environment. Her hands, however, are covered in small scars and scratches from interacting with a variety of rocks, ruins, and relics. Her usual attire is slightly shown above. Her favorite shirt is often draped over a darker colored tank top, typically black to match the bows accenting the front of the shirt. To pair with this, she wears a pair of darker colored skinny jeans, also often colored black. She then finishes off the look with a dark pair of trusty sneakers. In her off time, she's more prone to throwing on any comfy T-shirt and pajama bottoms and lounging around in less than casual attire. In a more formal setting, she'll wear a simple dress that highlights her facial features and brings out the color of her eyes, though the looks of the dresses will vary. Accessory-wise, she always wears a simple heart-shaped necklace even when sleeping. She rarely accessorizes beyond that, and hats on her head are almost unheard of. Defining Traits: Oddly colored eyes and a pale complexion. If paying close enough attention, the scattered and thin scars on her hands may also be prominent. Personality Personality: Wayward, thoughtful, but absent-minded may be some better ways to describe Avaritia. Her mind is typically all over the place, and her common discussions are just as scattered and non-linear and they travel with her train of thought. This causes her to hold curiosity in a wide variety of things, most of which pop into her head on a whim. While her mind may be like this, her mood typically doesn't change from a few scattered emotions. Her default feeling is that of quiet calmness, but she's very impacted by stress and has been known to snap at others when met with a situation she wasn't prepared for or has found she can't handle. She's the type of person who needs to be prepared and study a situation, so sudden, unexpected or chaotic occurrences that catch her off guard make her fall back into a mental haze and regress into more irate and hostile tenancies. She rarely falls back into more common emotions such as happiness or even sadness, and to reflect this is the fact that she rarely genuinely smiles. She may do so for pictures or spur of the moment joy, but on her own her face rarely reflects the emotion. She herself doesn't seem to notice this fact, and if it's mentioned, will try and make a point to smile more. Though, it rarely lasts longer than the day she tries to. Her face is still quite expressive, and emotions are very easy to read across her face whether they be irritation or boldness. She's almost an open book through her expressions and this makes her a horrid liar. She's an escapist and when met with a situation she can't handle and the resulting frustration because of it, it's not uncommon for her to seclude herself to be alone for a while, throw on some headphones and just blast music to escape the weight of the world or any sort of daunting task for a while. She also loves to go for walks late at night and admire the stars and get away from life for a while. She's also prone to obsessive behaviors. When met with a certain task or question, she'll stop at nothing in order to understand it using whatever it takes. Because of this, sleep is a lacking commodity in her life and she's often up all night doing work or researching until her thirst for answers is satisfied. If she doesn't get results, it'll sometimes consume the chaos that is her pool of thoughts. She conducts herself in an intellectual mannerism and usually makes note of the mannerisms of everything around her in order to better understand the situation. While she herself is easily read, so too does she easily read people. She's often one of the first people to recognize when others are worried about something, avoiding a subject, or have something else on their mind. These small observations also help her be aware of when someone's actions contradict their words, although she never assumes that they're lying as a result since their body may be unconsciously meaning something else. Because she traveled so frequently in her life, she was rarely around peers her own age in order to learn proper social skills. As a result, she's awkward in conversation, and despite her best efforts, it's not something she's particularly good at. An academic discussion or debate can get her talking for hours... small talk on the other hand, not so much. She's an excellent mediator, though, as she always speaks her mind toward others and doesn't lie for the sake of sparing feelings. She was taught to be direct and to-the-point, so that's exactly what she does. If she notices her words create offense or negative reactions, whether shown by facial expressions or words in kind, she'll at least try to avoid bringing up the subject in the future but she won't take back what was said. She has an excellent relationship with Pokemon and holds a fascination with the power and secrets each individual species possesses. She's interacted with the creatures from an early age and have seen large varieties of wild Pokemon, each with their own personalities and traits, which she finds fascinating. They're like people that don't need small talk and can be pet and played with! If she had a moral compass, it would rest on neutral. She takes moral actions that she believes is right at the time despite what the majority may feel. This means she's very open to mistakes and her current feelings and frame of mind influence her moral decisions. Her sense of humor consists of terrible puns, references to things that mostly go over other's heads, and dry, sarcastic wit. She has very few pet peeves, but those that are condescending as well as those that believe their own knowledge is greater than all others and that they're always right. People with these qualities gain little patience from Avaritia. She has a soft spot for most furry mammalian Pokemon and will get the huge urge to pet any one she sees. She has a fondness for Dark types in particular, due to her often encountering them on her nightly walks and finding fascination with their ability to navigate the world while most others slept. Avaritia has an educated mind and a sharp memory for information. She learns rather well and has worked on the ability to study and pay attention to details at an early age. To highlight this, she is very knowledgeable of ancient ruins, languages, and legends. She can read snippets of Latin and is well-versed in ancient Unown script as well as braille. Things like small spaces, heights, darkness, or other things most people fear don't phase her. However, she has a fear of pain, whether it is being inflicted on her or her inflicting it on others. This doesn't extend to the use of Pokemon battles, as they're a social norm and despite her intellect, she doesn't associate the two. She has a strong sentimental connection to the necklace she wears at all times, and periodically touches it in the day just to make sure it's still around her neck. If it were ever lost, she'd stop at nothing to get it back. She doesn't hold this same feeling for many other possessions she owns. The motivation that drives her the most is her need to understand the ancient world and figure out the meaning behind the strange inscriptions scattered throughout the world. She's also now taken a liking to the idea of being a Trainer and collecting badges after taking a long look at her life and realizing that her old path wasn't healthy. When having to choose between the two goals, though, she'll prioritize the rumors of ruins to explore rather than the aspect of a gym battle in the next town. She's not very superstitious but enjoys hearing how far back their origins are. She likes the dark and night time, fuzzy Pokemon, exploring, and researching. She dislikes condescending people, not being able to figure something out, and pain. She would be content in a life where she's a mildly accomplished trainer that can travel the world and discover new places and information of time's past. Strengths:
Weaknesses:
Battle Style: Avaritia often prefers going on the offensive rather than the defensive, although she will use status moves if they're available to her as a setup for extra damage. She likes Pokemon that are either fast hard hitters that strike first and quick before being taken out or tank-like Pokemon that can deal as much damage as they take. She tries to avoid the use of items other than held items, and uses them sparingly. If her opponent and their team can be researched beforehand, she'll have read up and already formed a strategy by the time she gets on the battlefield. If not, she'll constantly be switching her strategy and working to gain the advantage given any situation. Background History: Avaritia is the result of a shaky love between a man obsessed with the past and a woman always looking to the future. Neither of them had plans for children, but that didn't it from happening. Her parents were young and newly married, and news of a child on the way brought both of their lives to a screeching halt for a while. Her mother took to the changes but it was more difficult for her father. By the time she was born, her mother was ready to settle for a while and raise her new child. Her father, in his final apathetic protest, named their new daughter Avaritia, after one of the seven sins that he believed the baby currently possessed. As one of life's many jokes, she ended up being the older of a set of twins, having a brother named Acedia born right after herself. She and her brother were raised mostly by her mother as their father went back to his tireless work. Her life was simple and easy in these early years, and like many twins, she formed a close bond with Acedia. When the dawn of Avaritia's 10th birthday loomed, she started gaining a typical rebellious streak. Unlike her morally rigid brother's best protests, she would often sneak into her father's study while he was away. It was the only room of the house neither of the children were allowed in, but his long hours away and their mother's focus on other tasks at home did little to help maintain this rule. It was here that her spark of curiosity truly began to turn into a fire. She would rifle through his books and notes, trying to decipher the academic vocabulary to something she could understand. If she gave up on figuring out what it was trying to say, she'd simply look at the pictures and diagrams instead. It all eventually lead her to take an interest into what her father studied and always ventured off to, and it's an interest that stuck with her for the rest of her life. The more opportunity she had to do these sneaky study sessions, the more carelessly and late she stayed in the room. After one year of this behavior, she was finally caught after her father's sudden appearance to retrieve a forgotten notebook. "So this is why your brother was more chatty with me than usual. A diversion." Avaritia jumped after hearing the voice, making the book in her hand clatter to the floor. Turning to her father, he seemed bemused rather than angry, an odd reaction on his part. "Don't worry, I've known for a while. A man obsessed with books doesn't often forget where he puts them, but the man borrowing them seldom returns them as they were." She was surprised by his words, but ultimately relieved at not being in trouble. Then, his next words changed her life forever. "Would you like to see the places for yourself? Pages are one thing, but they never truly compare. We are quite close to the Ruins of Alph, and I was going to investigate new data there tomorrow."He had never tried connecting with his children before, and the question shook the girl to her core. She could see what the diagrams showed in person. She could help find out their mysteries. She gladly accepted without a second thought. Of course, a commonly educated 11 year old wasn't much help on the venture besides carrying a few things and getting to explore on her own. As the years went by and Avaritia became personally tutored in her down time by her father, she slowly began to learn more about the inner workings of the ruins. At the age of 15, she had learned the workings of ancient languages, the myths and mysteries surrounding all sorts of structures in the world, and that her father was hiding something. Once she was smart enough to understand her father's notes and words, to spend late nights researching on her own while her days were spent shut into her home, he began be be more cryptic. He wrote certain things on code, to fall silent if she happened to walk by if he were on the phone. The questions these actions created wouldn't be answered until three years later in her life, but that wasn't the only rift that was formed. Avaritia and Acadia still got along as twin siblings did, even in their older years. While Avaritia was progressively either on an expedition with her father or shut inside the house studying and researching, Acadia was developing his own habits. The two, despite their differences, still made their intertwined lives work. Her mother and father, however, weren't the same story. Their parents often fought about everything. The children, his work, and their lives together were typical topics when it came to the screaming matches. This lead to both of the siblings being sat down and broken the news that now that they were older, neither parents had to be together for the sake of the kids. The news brought a rift to the Aliastor family. Despite her mother's best efforts, it was ultimately decided that Avaritia stay with her father as that was what Avaritia wanted at the time, while Acadia and her mother moved away to Kanto. As a good luck token, and something to keep her daughter's spirits up, Avaritia's mother gave her a simple heart shaped necklace, telling her to call them if she ever needed anything and to visit once they get settled. Ever since biding farewell to half of her family, she never took the necklace off. After the wake of the divorce was settled and there was no longer anything tying the duo to Johto besides their real estate, she and her father began to travel all over the regions. They visited Sinnoh and took note of all of the influences legends had, then Kanto's very own Sevii Islands. It was here that she finally felt her first real bout of tireless frustration. Within Mt. Ember, she had found a crumbling braille inscription, but as she turned to alert her father, he was already gone and disappeared. This wasn't common, and she often associated this with his dodgy behaviors that didn't cease when he separated from his wife. So, in her own act of defiance, she kept it to herself. It had read: EVERYTHING HAS MEANING EXISTENCE HAS MEANING BEING ALIVE HAS MEANING HAVE DREAMS USE POWER The words resonated with her, and she needed to know more. No matter how much she looked, how much she asked, nothing ever lead to answers to what it meant. She had spent many long hours on the puzzle, even re-visiting Mt. Ember in her own time late at night, but nothing heeded answers and she eventually had to give up. Just as suddenly as they had went to Kanto, she got the news that they needed to take the next ferry to Hoenn. Avaritia didn't even get the chance to meet with her other family members like she had planned. The next thing she knew, she was gone from Kanto and swept across the ocean. She almost became disillusioned with her current life, and began fantasizing about the life of a simple trainer instead of myth hunter. She had failed, and that lead to her seeking the extreme. After confronting her father with this news, the two got into a heated argument that eventually settled as life returned to their version of normal. Hoenn changed everything. They had trekked through three extremes of the region to unlock the secrets of deeply buried caves hiding them. Unfortunately, none of the caves could be accessed by any of their means. Finally, after digging deep into Hoenn's historical documents they made their way to the well-hidden Sealed Chamber. On this trip, Avaritia's exhaustion and strain had gotten the better of her, and it was decided that she would stay behind in a room on the boat to rest and regain her wits. Her father was quite encouraging of this idea. The next day, a knock on the door met her with not her father, but a man looking to be in his early twenties that she had never encountered before. "W-What are you doing here?" she asked, and all of the dominoes her father had so-carefully tried not to hit came crashing down one after another. "Why hello, my dear." The man smile as he sat across from her, sitting up perfectly straight compared to Avaritia's own slouch. Before she could speak, he continued. "This vessel is owned by myself and some companions of mine. Because of this, neither of us are trespassers here, so no need to be alarmed. That being said, I bear the unfortunate news that we have no longer been able to contact your dear dad. As he was a man that possessed certain knowledge that we require, we made it quite clear that he wasn't to disobey orders. It seems he's skipped out on us, so the repercussions naturally fall to you, dear Avaritia." A stone-cold silence entered the room and so many questions welled in her head. Who was this man, and how had her father gotten tied into all of it, and back when? Why did he abandon her? What did they want? "Well, girl, the Chamber awaits. Be hasty now, we're not about to let our new favorite runekeeper follow in daddy's footsteps." The threat was clear, and she was currently held up on the man's boat probably surrounded by his people. Just how many of her companions and fellow explorers had ill intentions, what were their goals? Why did he abandon her? Her mind traveled through thousands of questions as she moved deeper into the chamber, recognizing carvings and stone structures similar to those she had encountered on Mt. Ember. Sure enough, reflected in a similar place that Ember's scriptures rested did ones in the same language within the Sealed Chamber. This is what they wanted, and out of frustration and anger and hurt, she punched the stone tablet. Again and again until her knuckles bled and her hand shook. Tears streamed down her face, and she was wrestled away to prevent any more damage to herself or the stone. "LONG DID WE LIVE HERE IN THIS CAVE. ALL THANKS TO THE POWERFUL POKEMON LIVING ALONGSIDE US. YET, WE SEALED THAT POKEMON AWAY, ALONE IN THE DARK. WE FEARED IT. IF YOU HAVE THE COURAGE, IF YOU STILL HOLD TO HOPE, OPEN THE DOOR. FOR BEYOND IT THE ETERNAL POKEMON WAITS." She hissed the translation, losing all fight within her and only feeling a dull emptiness inside. He had abandoned her, and to what? A life of this? "Good girl." The same voice as before said, and she turned to see the same man as before with a crooked grin stretching across his face. "Now it's about time to plan your little future, don't you agree? Someone like yourself would do no good being locked up in a tower all day like those old stories assume, no? Instead, I'd like to give you a gift. A new start, a partnership for us. Not that you have much of a choice, you're life's already sold away and arrangements can be made to take back this generosity at any time." He motioned for one of the nearby grunts, no longer maintaining the facade of fellow researchers, to bring the items currently held in their arms. It was a bag, a belt to hold Pokemon, and a ferry ticket. The man himself procured one single inhabited Pokeball and clipped it onto the belt before offering it to Avaritia. "These are all the materials you'll need to make those dreams of becoming a Trainer come true. I look forward to seeing your progress, my dear, but be aware that this is a luxury, not a right. Whenever we need you, we will get in contact and you will not resist. Don't breathe a word of our little partnership to anybody. We will be watching." The smile on his face was so full of genuine happiness, and Avaritia couldn't help but be sickened by this fact. How did they know about her dreams? Just how long had he been watching when she thought she was alone? She had no choice in the matter, nowhere else to go. Instead, she took the bag and Pokemon and departed from Hoenn without fuss and with a spiraling mind. Her ferry was now bound toward Kalos, a region she hadn't yet been in her traveled but was home to bountiful history and relics. This was her life now, suddenly a Trainer standing on edge and never truly alone. But the journey was just beginning. Defining Moments:
Other Information +I left certain aspects of her History vague in order to better explore some plot possibilities. The organization, its goals, and so much more about it can be developed and explored along her journey. +Although Avaritia is unaware of this fact, her father never abandoned her. It was quite the opposite in intention. He loved his daughter, grew to care for her so much more than himself. So much so that he decided to quit his work, which the organization did not permit. Avaritia was lied to, and they have her father held somewhere against his will, considering they had a much easier to manage and much less knowing alternative to take his place. Being the manipulative group they are, they will most likely never let on to this fact. +More to be added when necessary~ |
