Mega Evolution
Mega Evolution is the process of releasing greater power from a Pokemon through a trainer's bond with that Pokemon as well as use of a Keystone and Mega Stone. Along with new power, the Pokemon will also change in appearance and may even develop a temporary new ability upon their Mega Evolution. They're a force to be reckoned with, and quite a powerful friend to have at your side! In order to Mega Evolve, the following conditions must be met:
- Your character must own a Keystone and Mega Accessory
- They must own the appropriate Mega Stone and the Pokémon you want to mega evolve must be holding it
- The Pokémon you wish to mega evolve must have a Happiness of 80 or higher
Now, then, how would one go about obtaining their very own Keystone and Mega Accessory?
Obtaining the Keystone
A Keystone is a vital tool in order to activate Mega Evolution. In order for your own character to gain one, they must complete a certain goal in order for a Mega Evolution Guru to appear and walk them through the rest of the process. This goal is dependent upon their main trainer classification:
- A Trainer must obtain 4 Gym Badges from within the same region. 3 badges from Kalos and 1 from Kanto will NOT work, so they can't just challenge four of the first gyms of each region.
- A Breeder must successfully produce 7 or more eggs totaled from at least two different breeding pairs.
- A Coordinator must obtain at least 2 ribbons, one of which being for first place. These ribbons, unlike the gym badge requirement, does not have to be from the same region.
- A Tamer must capture 5 Pokémon of their preferred type(s) and raise at least one to level 30. These Pokémon don't necessarily have to be of different species, but it's up to the character's preferences.
- An Adventurer but reach a significant milestone in their respective goals. Because each Adventurer is different, this can be more difficult to give a strict guideline on. A plotline toward this will usually be introduced once their Pokémon hit around level 30.
Once this guideline is met, a mysterious Mega Evolution Guru will appear and give the character one final challenge. This challenge will also typically depend on the trainer classification, and it may be a battle, some sort of contest, or another challenge set out to bring out the bond between trainer and Pokémon. After the final challenge is complete, the Guru will give the character their very own Keystone!
Obtaining the Mega Accessory
Once a character has their Keystone, they'll need a Mega Accessory to put it in. This accessory is unique to each character, and they're ultimately the one that gets to decide what it is, whether it be a bracelet, crown, cape, or anything else that they think will represent them best. After the Mega Guru has been appeased, they'll give your character instructions on finding the region's respective Craftsman. Then, simply visit the Craftsman and show them the Keystone. They'll be happy to follow your vision and craft the Keystone to fit into your very own Mega Accessory!
Using a Mega Evolution
- Once a Pokémon has mega evolved in battle, no more mega evolutions can be used until the battle is over
- The mega evolved Pokémon will retain its form until the battle ends, meaning it still retains its mega form upon switching out or being revived from fainting
- A mega evolution may be used in the contest appeal stage for extra wow-factor
- Mega Evolution cannot be used in the battle portion of lower level Contests. In the Grand Festival, Mega Evolutions ARE permitted in the battle section, as it is the biggest and most prestigious of contest challenges
